Letterform drawings
The best way to observe and learn the alphabetic features, as well as typeface nomenclature, is by drawing. Using two pencils in a steady angle, the students draw letterforms in groups of three (round, straight and diagonal forms), to later refine them, testing connections, terminals, and properties that are discussed in class. The results are not always perfect letterforms, but rather a deep understanding of font structure.
