The use of two colors (orange and black) in several shades (light and dark values) achieves an effect known as simultaneous contrast, in which some gray tones are perceived as a slightly cold hue (blue, perhaps green), "adding" one color to the design palette. The blue cover uses the same resource, with the opposite hues.
